Picture

The 50EQ3KA is a 4K (also called Ultra HD or UHD) television. This means there are over 8 million pixels spread across the screen, which allows for breath taking picture detail. This is four times higher than the previous benchmark of full HD (FHD), and it shows. From being able to differentiate the hairs on a lion’s mane during an Attenborough marathon all the way to watching a panning cityscape shot and realising you can make out the detail of every building, 4K means delivery of a crystal-clear picture.

Sharp’s EQ3KA television series use a Quantum Dot layer to produce colour. This new and exciting technology provides far greater colour range and variation, resulting in more vibrant and realistic images.

To make the most of this level of colour quality, an equally impressive backlighting system is required. Sharp have equipped the 50EQ3KA with a direct LED matrix, allowing for precise brightness control across the entire picture. Some of the most notable benefits of this approach are vastly improved contrast levels, enabling deeper and richer blacks, as well as improved immersion in in low light levels.

Altogether, the combined effects of these developments mean that the 50EQ3KA is capable of stunning playback.

Sharp’s EQ3KA series also have HDR (High Dynamic Range) support as standard. When combined with the already impressive display quality, HDR transforms picture quality from great to absolutely breath taking. The two most noticeable effects of HDR support are better lighting (through bigger ranges of both brightness and contrast) and more realistic colours (through 12-bit colour depth). Using both features in tandem allows the 50EQ3KA to play HDR supported media that looks fantastically realistic.

Sharp’s EQ series televisions incorporate a bespoke motion smoothing system. In each TV is an ultra-efficient processor that uses artificial intelligence to analyse and enhance playback in real time. This is particularly noticeable when viewing detailed playback of quick movements (especially with sports). If needed, the AQUOS processor will generate and insert additional video frames, resulting in butter smooth watching. This feature can also be optionally deactivated by users if a pure cinematic experience is desired.

Sound

The 50EQ3KA’s audio quality is a result of Sharp’s partnership with Harman Kardon. As a result of the combination and collaboration between these two industry leaders, Sharp’s latest televisions possess a one-of-a-kind audio system that delivers clear and undistorted sound. Higher pitched treble notes are directed straight at the viewer to enhance speech and dialogue. Lower bass notes are reflected around the room to give a rich and surrounding feel.
